Episencial: Organic Skincare for Kids

There are quite a few products out there that claim to be organic and healthy for our kids. I am not sure what it is about Episencial that makes me go with them for Kennedy’s skin. Could it be the cutesy recycled packaging with illustrations by Eric Carle (The Very Hungry Caterpillar)? I love that book!!!

This stuff smells so good! I used to hear people say “oh I could just eat ___ up” and I used to my think to myself how do you eat a baby? Well now I know!! Not that I’ve had baby or anything but after you get them bathed and lotioned up, you could just nibble on their little necks. According to their site, their product smells good because they use “real fruit juice extracts – not fragrances”. Nice!

You can get a range of items from body butter to sunscreen (you shouldn’t only use this in the summer mommies) but here is what I like:

Sweet Dreams Bubble Bath ($9)-I think by now you know I love me some lavender…well they add plum to this too. Yummy!

Better Body Butter ($9)- Kennedy is a picker and I am trying to heal some of her scars so we’ll see how this product works out. This has olive oil and shea butter in it-two products I know that are pretty good for healthy skin.

I think this is also fairly priced. I picked up my items at my local Target but of course Amazon has it as well. Right now it’s cheaper to buy it on Target’s site. Toodles!

What you put on your baby's or child's skin (or anyone's skin) can either be beneficial or harmful, depending on the ingredients it contains, so it's important to read the labels of ALL the products you use on your and your baby's face, body and hair.

Research is showing a buildup of chemicals on the skin can cause skin problems including acne, dryness and skin cancer.

In addition, over 60% of what gets on the skin is absorbed into the bloodstream, quickly reaching all organs. Getting chemicals into organs of ANY age is not a good idea.

With so many manufacturers using chemicals in their products, almost any product – cleansers, moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, hair gels and sunscreens – can be causing breakouts on the face and body and drying out skin.

Here’s a page that shows harmful ingredients commonly used in skin and hair care products. http://www.best-mens-skin-care.com/ingredients….

To find chemical-free products, read labels and research ingredients – or start with certified organic ingredients which don’t contain harmful chemicals.

Organic ingredients provide benefits from Mother Nature that just can’t be duplicated by synthetic ingredients. They don’t dry out your baby’s skin or cause adverse reactions. Organic ingredients such as lavender, chamomile and grape seed oil offer positive, healing benefits for babies without the adverse affects of synthetic fragrances or chemicals.
