The Diva and Her Big Girl Bed

I’m not sure what it is about toddler bed’s that annoy me but I’ve never used one. I think it should be one transition out of crib into a big bed and be done with it. When I moved Kayden into his big bed, it took approximately 2 weeks to get him into his new routine. It broke my heart to hear him cry for me and I was tempted to put him back in his crib but I stuck it out. I transitioned him from crib to bed right about 2 months or so before his 2nd birthday because Kennedy was on her way and I needed him to know his new room was now with M’khai. I also didn’t want to have to deal with a newborn and the hassle of trying to transition Kayden in between sleep walking. Luckily for me, it didn’t take that long for him to get it. We never stayed up in the middle of the night trying to get him to stay in his room, so in actuality the 2 weeks was about how long it took for him to stop calling me and crying when he went to bed. The crying and calling out for mommy took all of 10 minutes but the minute he got into the habit of climbing on his step stool and hearing the bedtime story, it was all gravy. I didn’t expect Kennedy to take right to it.

As I mentioned yesterday, I transitioned her over the weekend into her big girl bed. I posted here about my furniture dilemma and what I ended up doing was searching on craigslist for someone with either the same crib as mine or the same color. Hence my craigslist post. I ended up finding the same color and since the cribs convert to full beds, I figured I would take her crib down and use the new crib for the baby. The crib was in mint condition, couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I set delivery up for her mattress between 12 & 4 on Monday but they called to bring it earlier. This didn’t leave me any time to take her crib down so I had to use the headboard from the new crib. This sucked because I essentially bought a whole crib just to use one measly piece. ( My mom suggested I use the extra pieces for firewood-SMH) So the bed is up, she went in and that’s when the divaness started. “Close the door!” “Get out” These are the phrases I hear at night when her brother or cousins try to tell her goodnight. I never thought she would adapt that quickly to the bed. She hasn’t climbed out or called for me yet, BUT, it’s still too early to tell. I hope this is how it’ll go, but with her, you just never know. So far the only crying I hear is when I try to get her out of the bed in the morning. Here are the first pics of her in the bed. Her hair just got washed so that’s why she looks like a lion.

I ended up using the bed rails I had on Kayden’s bed which is why they’re blue but my mom said she’ll make new pink covers since they just don’t sell the covers. If you aren’t too keen on the bed rails, here is something else to consider:

These Go Bed Bug bumpers are wedges that go right under the sheets. I would’ve used these with Kennedy but she hates being confined to one area so I passed.
