A Baby Girl’s Room
When I found out I was having a girl, (which was right after I pushed her out) my heart sank. I had to do the nursery all over again. I knew I would be keeping the furniture but I had no idea where I should start in terms of paint color. Should I stay away from the girlish pink? Should we go for a Mod look? I was overwhelmed and actually grateful that she would be sleeping in my room for the first three months in that handy dandy bassinet.
As it came time for me to start prepping the room, I went to my usual source of inspiration. HGTV’s Rate My Space site gives me so many ideas to work from. When I am not doing a full on remodel, I use that site to find new ways to revamp old space. My mind is constantly flowing because I get tired, very quickly, of the same look.
My initial thought was no pink because I wanted to see if I could still capture girly without pink. I failed. I ended up doing pink but thanks to the HGTV site, I was able to work in a few different colors to complement the main color. Through Rate My Space, I also found the major design element of her room. Here. As much as I change a room around, vinyl attraction made perfect sense. When I get tired of baby girl’s look, I can peel it off and change it up. In the meantime, I am quite pleased with how it came out. What do you think?
Have you ventured beyond just pink for girls or even blue for boys? How did it come out? What are your favorite sites for inspiration? Share your finds with me.
P.S. Her initials are KISS and I found those pillows in Walgreen’s last year after Valentine’s day. Score!!!
Room Elements:
- Rug: Pottery Barn Kids. I usually buy two rugs, one winter, one spring and send one to clean while the other is in rotation.
- Picture Frames: Ikea. I picked my two favorite images of her as a baby and blew them up.
- Furniture: Morigeau Lepine. By far the best crib I found when I was pregnant with Kayden. It has lasted through two babies but it wasn’t until I started writing this post that I discovered the company closed their doors in 2008. Where the hell am I going to find the conversion rails now?
