State of Zen
This blog couldn’t launch at a better time. I am doing a few things in the house that sort of signify a new beginning. Starting with, my Zen room. This will be my personal space that is completely off limits to the kids, the husband, in short, everyone. I think we all need a quiet place, a spot to think, imagine and reflect. I have been doing some research on the subject of relaxation and I think I have it all down to a science now. I was shopping around for a few items in TJ Maxx the other day and came across the book pictured above. It was on clearance for $7.99!!! I used this book as an inspiration for the color palette of the room. The one image that stuck out to me was of the ocean at sunset.

This seemed like a perfect fit because I love the beach. A sense of calmness surrounds me when I am face to face with more than one element at a time. The sun is the fire; there’s water and the earth is the land. I incorporated those elements into my design by using these colors as the basis for the design:
The lighter blue color will be the walls, the orange and turquoise-ish blue will be pillows and throws and the dark brown will be the base of the couch, the coffee table and in accent pieces like the picture frames.
I am feeling this table from Crate & Barrel:
What I can’t settle on, is the couch. I would like some sort of sleeper because the room will double as a guest room when company stays over. Any thoughts on this? Have you seen any nice full or queen sleepers that make you just want to fall asleep when you sit on it?
I am looking forward to sharing the progress of the Zen room with you. Tell me where you seek solace in your home. Do you have a spot just for you?
