Site Seeing: The Working Proof
I started transforming one of my halls into a gallery to showcase the kids’ artwork. So any and everything they do, is put on display. They get really excited about their opening night and they get to say a little bit about their pieces that are on display. For now, we show indefinitely, but as the space gets crowded, we will only have pieces up for a limited amount of time.
As for me, I like to score a good piece of artwork every now and again and I recently saw an article about this site, theworkingproof.com. Every week, an artist offers a limited-edition print to be sold on the site, with 15% of each sale going to a charity of his or her choosing. If you log on and check out the prints, you will see the inspiration behind the artwork and the reason the artist selected their charity. I think this is a great way to give back and upgrade your art collection at the same time. After perusing the site, I’ve decided to go with this print, dahlias are my favorite, although I suspect that I will be getting more pieces! I would love to see more black artists get involved with this cause. Help me spread the word!
