The Office
And not the television show. LOL So you know about the Zen room but another exciting change I am making is relocating my office from the upstairs to a lower level floor. If I happen to have a meeting at home, it will be much easier and functional to bring the guest into this new location than up in the living quarters of the house where the office used to be. This new space is quite cozy too. I think the first feeling you get from it is a sense of warmth and relaxation, definitely not, let me get some work done. That feeling is important to me because from the office, you go right into the Zen room. So here is a first look at The Office:
The wall colors in this room used to be a very dull gray. I am very much an earthy neutral girl so I chose “frothy” as the color to stick to that palette. The desk furniture is from Ikea and there are a few items from Ikea that do not last long at all but this furniture set has been doing very well for the last four years. If I am forced to change this set, I do have my eye on something atĀ Pottery Barn. I love the frosted designed glass of the cabinets.
On the wall, I am using pieces fromĀ Pottery Barn’s Daily System. I use the full system in our kitchen and was so thrilled with it, that I incorporated a few pieces in the office. Beneath the Daily System cork boards, I have spice jars and racks that you would normally see in a kitchen but I needed somewhere for paper clips, rubber bands, mints, etc. Don’t be afraid to use something outside of it’s intended use. So far it is working out great. I have the magnetic canisters and the glass jars.
One other piece that is essential in the office is the magnetic calendar board. I usually give one of the boys the job of filling in the dates for the current month. I have magnets (if you look close, you can see the round magnets on the board) that I mark the days off with depending on what the activity is. This is how I try to stay organized.
Here’s a sneak peek of what I found this weekend at Crate & Barrel and how the Zen room is coming along. The coffee table is back ordered until March so it will be a while before I unveil it but I will continue showing elements of inspiration.
Sleeper Couch
I settled on this couch and these pillows. In fact, the room will look pretty much like this.
