Back To School Kicked My Ass

Now that it’s over, all I can say is: whew! I went school shopping weeks ago-why the hell wasn’t I ready? When I looked at my list of things to do on Labor Day, it didn’t seem like it was alot. I was so wrong. Well for starters, I didn’t plan on Costco being closed on Labor Day-who the frick does that? I also probably should have never started transitioning the diva into her big girl bed the day before school. (don’t worry, her sleeping went just fine-she’s a bum) it’s just that I got the mattress delivered on Labor Day and everything that could go wrong went wrong, but that really is another post. LOL

There’s something about being pregnant and everything needing to be fresh and in it’s place. back to school is a new start and since I didn’t paint this past Spring, I set out on this whole new room campaign. So I made sure I started with the boys’ room since they were actually going to school. M’khai started on Tuesday and Kayden started today. During the diva’s birthday party two weekends ago, I had their room painted and we put down our new fall rug. We hung new curtains and put up our learning posters. I still have bins on the floor and a few more things to hang but I should have it all done by Friday. I also decided it was time for them to get a computer in their room and I just discovered the Mac mini. You guys know how much I love Macs and the mini is just right because it doesn’t take up much space at all. In fact, it sits right on the desk in their room and it’s so sleek! I had a monitor I wasn’t using so I just hooked that up and voila they were using the learning software I purchased. I plan on giving them each about a half hour computer time during the week. Apple had a promotion that ended yesterday in which certain computer purchases qualified for a free iPod touch, the mini wasn’t one but we did get a free printer!

I like the Euro-modern look of H&M so of course I went ballistic buying them more clothes during their 20% off Labor Day sale, I also splurged during the end of summer sale at Ralph Lauren. But today, I ask myself why-after reviewing the Pre-K letter, it specifically says, plan for your kids to come home dirty, with mentions of things such as sand, play-doh, mud-I could scream! What mother wants their new clothes subjected to that? So it looks like most of the new items will be reserved for weekend, “out with mommy” use. I’m learning the hard way that I should splurge on the teen who actually wants to go to school looking “fresh for the girls”!

Now that I’m back in the office, I am reviewing handouts from teachers and working on “the contract” for the teen. I can’t wait to share it so you’ll can let me know if my demands are reasonable or ridiculous. In the meantime, here are our photos from yesterday and today of Back to School with The Boys. You’ll notice a few similar poses between the two, we had a model pose, fresh for the girls, surprise, and a thinking pose. I swear M’khai needs to model but I don’t think his attitude will allow for it. The teen is missing because he has to be in school at 7:45, I’m not ready and he’s not posing. :) Enjoy!

I hope your back to school experience was as exciting as mine!
