Health Noir: Family Biggest Loser

I’m still rocking weight from two babies ago. This is completely unacceptable. My husband didn’t meet me like this and for those of you that think because you popped out a kid or two, he should have to deal with the new, bigger, you-shame on you! We need to get healthy (that is the main goal) and fit to be sexy. To that end, I’ve signed up for the Family Biggest Loser. We’ve been going since January but I just got serious about it, like today-hence the post. The competition ends in May and winner takes the pot. Each person is required to pay a $25 fee monthly and I want to say that the pot is now around $2500. I could use that dinero for my new summer wardrobe!

I’ve always known how to lose weight after doing it really big once before. The problem is, it’s so much easier to be fat. Really it is. Eating healthy requires time and money and sometimes I just don’t have the time. I recently got an email from Epicurious about a 500-calorie diet solution and I saved it for future use. Well, I now have all of my shopping list items and I’m ready to get started. There are so many options and I plan to mix it up so I don’t get bored. If you register on Epicurious, you can save your recipe and create a shopping list. I printed out the entire 7-day plan and using my Google calendar, I will plan my meals for the week so I make sure to stay on track. From my experience I will say that being prepared is key. When you don’t have a meal plan, you’ll eat anything. This is how I end up at Panera for a “you pick two” and a danish. If I’m prepared, I could still eat something filling and be healthy at the same time.

As for working out, I’m going to get more serious about my Spinning classes and yoga. I’m a firm believer that once you get on a steady workout regimen, you can eat whatever you want (in moderation). It doesn’t work if you eat whatever you want and think about going to the gym. I’ll at least try to walk 2 miles a day (on the treadmill that is holding blankets ever so nicely in my family room) if I can’t make it to a class. I’ll use The Firm for weight training but I also have a groupon to use at a local gym that has kettlebell and tire-throwing workouts. I get bored really easily with the gym so I need intersting things to keep me motivated. Another thing I spotted at my wellness center was body pump and that looked like fun.

I currently weigh 188 pounds. My goal weight is 155-160 by my birthday which is in August. In order to win, it would be cool if I could lose 20 pounds by May. If you have weight loss goals, share them with me and let’s get moving!!

I needed this article so badly! I’m just getting back to work after baby. Going to the gym for the 1st time today….scary. I haven’t been there for 7 months!! I have 50 lbs of baby weight to drop. I know I can do it – as i did with baby #2. Thanks for the motivation!
