You Will Be Eating My Cupcakes

You should probably know, I never really wanted kids. Now that I have them, I want to be a good mom at home and at school. I go all out for school activities and functions! I have to be there for everything (which reminds me, Obama promised time to parents for school activities, what happened to that? ) I was an active member of the PTA when we had just one elementary school but now that we have two, I decided to sit out this year until the dust settled. I don’t know when they selected the room parent but I would’ve volunteered for that because I love M’khai’s teacher and I enjoy hosting events. The room parent works closely with the teacher and assists in organizing class events. So when the sign-up was sent for the Valentine’s Day party, I replied quickly and chose to make the cupcakes. You know I like to bake! I happened to be right at my computer when the email was sent out so I was the first person to reply. I walked away feeling rather comfortable that I got what I wanted and continued on with my day.

I check my email periodically throughout the day so you could only imagine my surprise when I saw that another mother replied indicating she would be making cupcakes. I was shocked and confused! They only need 20, so would we be splitting it? I did the quick scroll through the rest of the emails looking for the email from the room parent advising that the cupcakes were already covered but utensils and paper goods were very much still needed. No such email. I started to get antsy-where is the room parent to kill this soon-to-be drama?? Should I reply to the mom telling her I was on cupcakes as indicated in my earlier email? What to do? Decisions, decisions. I decided to walk away and cool off.

This was last week. I have checked my email every 5 minutes or so since then but the email with the assignments just came through. Guess who’s doing cupcakes? Yours truly! I win.

Now I can begin to focus on more important things, like, which recipe I’ll be making. :)

I was expecting you to say that after agreeing to make cupcakes, you then received an email saying that cupcakes were not allowed. It’s good to see that your school at least allows for the students to enjoy what they eat. Our child’s school only allows for us to bring celery and carrots (LOL)

Clay, that would suck majorly if all I could bring in were healthy things. What’s a party without cake and sweet stuff? :)
