Thankful Thought: Baking With My Baby

I’m always game for a new series. This Thankful Thought series isn’t my idea-it’s from my favorite digital scrapbooking site-AliEdwards.com.  I spend so much time on there it’s a wonder I get anything done. But wait, I don’t get much done as is. I’m finally taking part in something that she’s doing and I’m so excited. There’s no set frequency to it so it works beautifully with my schedule. When I see her do it, I’ll do it and boom, it’s done!

Anyhoo, I’m thankful for traditions that allow me to share the kitchen with the kids. One of the cake recipes I use religiously at Calypso is one that has been passed down to me from my mom whose mom passed it down to her.  I remember watching my mom bake as a kid; I was so restless waiting for the utensils she used so that I could lick what little batter she left on, off. As I bake now, I recall how she used to let nothing waste so there was never much to lick but I was a professional scraper so I reaped great batter rewards. I made a cake the other night to tweak the recipe a bit and I decided to let Kennedy like the spatula. I left her more than my mom left me.

This struck a chord with me as I’ve been baking with my little girl a lot lately. Most recent efforts chronicled here: http://www.natashaj.com/2011/04/morning-glory-muffin-madness.html. Thanks for the cool link: I’m inspired by Ali’s “just start now” approach. I just may do that.
